Ace cinematographer Ashok Mehta, who was suffering from advanced lung cancer, breathed his last yesterday, 15th August in a hospital. As per the reports, Ashok Mehta, who was 65, was critical from quite some time.
Whether it was with his way of using light or wearing his signature hat, Ashok has been credited with brining in a certain finesse in our films. Ashok had many prominent films to his credit, including Shekhar Kapoor's BANDIT QUEEN, Shyam Benegal's MANDI and TRIKAAL, Aparna Sen's 36 CHOWRINGHEE LANE, PAROMA, Shashi Kapoor's UTSAV, Subhash Ghai's RAM LAKHAN, KHALNAAYAK, KISNA, M F Hussain's GAJA GAMINI, multi starrer comedy film NO ENTRY, Shah Rukh Khan's CHALTE CHALTE.
He gave a break to model-turned-actor Arjun Rampal in Bollywood with his only directorial and production venture MOKSHA. Though he directed short films like ATTOT DOR and EK NAYA BHOR, MOKSHA was his first and only feature film. Besides, he also wrote the story of MOKSHA & SARDARI and dialogues of HUM TUMHARE HAIN SANAM. He even did small stint in acting in films like DIL TERA AASHIQ and IJAAZAT.
He was closely associated with Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor. It is being said that Arjun Rampal is planning to make a documentary on his mentor.
May his soul rest in peace!
