Oscar Winner Rick Heinrichs Directs 'The Ledge' for Fourth Wall (Video)

The production designer of such films as "Sleepy Hollow" and upcoming "Frankenweenie" recently joined transmedia entertainment company Fourth Wall as executive creative director.

Academy Award-winning production designer Rick Heinrichs has directed the short The Ledge, which he recently made as he began his new role as executive creative director at transmedia entertainment company Fourth Wall Studios. The short debuts Thursday on Rides.tv, the company’s proprietary transmedia entertainment platform.

In his new role at the Culver City-based business, Heinrichs is responsible for leading visual design for the studio and all of the projects developed for Rides.tv.

"The Ledge," a pilot for Rides.tv series The Gamblers, is described as an interactive short about a high school senior who tries to talk her lovesick stalker out of jumping off a building while two gamblers bet and riff on the outcome. It uses the Rides platform to activate the user’s browser and phone to allow for interactive participation.

Written by Fourth Wall Studios’ co-founder and science fiction author Sean Stewart, the short also enlisted director of photography Phedon Papamichael (The Descendants, The Ides of March), Oscar-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood (Dark Shadows, Sleepy Hollow) and Oscar-winning sound mixer David Parker (The Bourne Ultimatum, The English Patient).

“While others are focused on delivering the same traditional content on different devices, Fourth Wall Studios has created a platform that uses these devices to enhance and add dimension to narrative while engaging fans at a whole new level,” Heinrichs said. “Their innovative and creative approach to storytelling is inspiring.”

Heinrichs won an Oscar, BAFTA and Art Directors Guild Award for art direction on Tim Burton’sSleepy Hollow, as well as an Art Directors Guild Award for Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unofrtunate Events. His work also includes Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest as well as Burton’s Dark Shadows and his upcoming Frankenweenie.
