The Berlin award winner "A Royal Affair" by Nikolaj Arcel will close the Canadian fest, set to run from September 13 to 20.
TORONTO -- The 32nd annual Atlantic Film Festival will open with Ken Loach’s Cannes jury prize winner The Angel’s Share on September 13.
And the Halifax festival will close on September 20 with A Royal Affair, by Danish director Nikolaj Arcel and the winner of the best actor and best screenplay trophies in Berlin.
Fest organizers also booked gala screenings for Halifax directorShandi Mitchell’s The Disappeared, which was shot locally and stars Billy Campbell and Shawn Doyle, and Deepa Mehta’sMidnight’s Children, which will bow in Toronto.
Also transferring from Toronto to Halifax are Inch'Allah by Canadian director Anaïs Barbeau-Lavalette, Ruba Nadda’s Syrian drama Inescapable, Susanne Bier’s Love is All You Need,Antiviral by Brandon Cronenberg, which bowed in Cannes, as did Rust & Bone, by French directorJacques Audiard.
"There are several emerging filmmakers at this year's festival with a staggering 25 first-time features in our program, including five dramas from Halifax filmmakers alone," festival director Lia Rinaldo said Tuesday after unveiling the Atlantic festival lineup.
