The actor will receive the lifetime achievement honor at a gala the screening of "Arbitrage."
COLOGNE, Germany - The Zurich Film Festival will give its Golden Icon lifetime achievement award this year to Golden Globe winning actor Richard Gere.
Zurich will honor Gere on Sunday, September 23 at a gala ceremony at the city's Corso Cinema, where the actor will present his latest film, the Wall Street thriller Arbitrage. In the drama, directed by Nicholas Jarecki, Gere plays a hedge fund manager whose business, and life, begins to fall apart. The film also featuresSusan Sarandon, Brit Marling and Tim Roth.
Gere further adds to the star power at this year's Zurich fest.John Travolta and Oliver Stone will open the eighth Zurich festival Sept. 20 with the gala permiere of Stone's Savages. Travolta will also receive Zurich's Golden Eye honor.
Other Hollywood elite making the trip to Switzerland this year include Ocean's Eleven producer Jerry Weintraub, another Golden Eye recipient and Shawshank Redemption director Frank Darabont, who will head up the festival's international jury.
The 2012 Zurich Film Festival runs Sept. 20-30.
